Two features make this a stand-out product for emergency VHF communications.
1) When packed, the Shorelink is no larger than parachute flare.
2) When the helical antenna and cable are removed from inside the tube, the hollow tube can be used to hold a broom stick or boat hook. The assembly can then be lashed to the pushpit to achieve greater antenna height, and as a result, increased range.
