Your dive regulator allows you to breathe underwater and will need to be serviced annually. Even it hasn't been used for a while that's all the more reason (to ensure no moving parts have seized-up).
They are linked to your cylinder valve via either DIN or A-Clamp.
DIN can cope better with higher pressures. You should consider having an adaptor on-hand though as some dive centres in more "far flung" locations may not have the correct valves.
